An Indian startup that wants to make real estate more affordable has announced it will soon start offering a mobile app that lets people rent out their homes for short-term stays in the form of short-duration leases.
The app is called Rental and Home, and it will make it easy for people to rent out an apartment, condominium or townhouse in India, the country’s biggest.
The startup, called Homecafe, hopes to turn the idea into a product that will be useful for the entire Indian housing market.
“In the near term, we hope to launch a version of the app that works on the mobile platform and then will expand to other platforms, such as the web,” Rental And Home CEO Amit Bhatia told Quartz in an email interview.
The company has set a goal of launching the app on iOS and Android phones by the end of the year.
Bhatias says that the app will help people find affordable homes for their short-time stays in India.
“It is the first time that this has happened in India,” he said.
Homecafes co-founder Rahul Dhanachandran told Quartz that the startup’s mission is to bring affordable housing to India, a country with a population of 1.5 billion people.
“We believe that it is our responsibility to provide affordable housing in India to the masses,” he added.
HomeCafes app is a one-stop shop for renters and homeowners to search for housing for short stays in different parts of the country.
It’s an approach that is likely to be adopted by other startups in the Indian market.
Last year, Homecabins CEO Gopal Natarajan launched a similar app called Real House.
Nataramans app is available on the Google Play Store and on Amazon.com.
He told Quartz the goal of the startup was to create an app that would help people search for affordable housing and provide them with the right resources to find the right rental space in the country for their temporary stays.
Narsaas app is also being developed in India as well.
But Homecabs founders say that the aim of their app is to help homeowners as well as renters find affordable housing.
The apps goal is to solve the problem of finding a rental space and find people who want to rent apartments in the future.
“Rental and home is one of the biggest issues in the market right now,” Bhatiah said.
“There is a huge gap in the housing market in India.”
The company is not just looking to help owners search for their next rentals.
The idea of offering rentals is also aimed at helping owners find people willing to pay a deposit for their apartments.
“This is a great way to help people in the long term,” Nataras co-founders said.
